An experiment was conducted to determine the response of broiler chickens under?? dexamethasone induced stress conditions. The experiment was conducted using two hundred and forty days old Arbor acre broiler chickens. There were four treatments each having three????? replicates with twenty birds per replicate. Concentrations of dexamethasone at 0, 1, 2 and 3 mg/ L of water were supplied daily. The experiment lasted 56 days. A decrease (P>0.05) in rectal temperature with an increase (P>0.05) in respiratory rate with increasing dose of dexamethasone was observed. Birds receiving 0 mg dexamethasone had the highest (P<0.05) final body weight, average daily weight gain, average daily feed intake and feed conversion ratio. Dexamethasone effect on tibia weight, length, weight/length index and robusticity index was significant (P<0.05) with the control group performing better than the dexamethasone groups. It is concluded that dexamethasone-induced stress had negative effects on broilers performance and tibia geometric properties.

Two hundred Anak-2000 day old chicks were used to evaluate the effects of differently processed Jatropha curcas seed meal on growth performance, carcass characteristics, internal weight organ, haematological and biochemical indices of broiler chickens. Five experimental diets were formulated containing 0% Jatropha seed meal, 10% fermented Jatropha seed meal (FJM), 10% boiled Jatropha seed meal (BJM), 10% toasted Jatropha seed meal (TJM), and 10% soaked Jatropha seed meal (SJM) and were designated as T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 respectively. The chicks were randomly allotted to five dietary treatments consisting of four replication of ten birds per replicate in a completely randomized design (CRD).The result of the anti-nutritional factors (ANFs) determined were higher in in the raw Jatropha seed meal. Crude protein (CP) content of raw, soaked, fermented, boiled and toasted Jatropha curcas seed meal is 32.61, 29.35, 42.38, 38.62 and 29.60% respectively. The ether extracts (EE and crude fibre (CF) values ranged from 4.36 – 34.21% and 2.10 – 11.28% respectively. Among the processing methods employed, fermentation and toasting recorded higher reduction in the concentration of these anti-nutritional factors. The result of all the growth parameters measured were significantly (P0.05) difference across the treatment groups except for PCV, MCH and WBC. It was concluded from the results that broiler birds can be fed with 10% inclusion level of fermented Jatropha seed meal.

An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) fruit waste (SOFW) with Acidomix?AFG on the coliform count in the small intestine of weaner rabbits. It was conducted using thirty-five weaner rabbits. There were four dietary treatments, each having five replicates consisting of graded levels of SOFW at 0, 10, 15, and 20% respectively treated with Acidomix?AFG at two levels (0.5% and 0.7%) for each dietary treatment containing SOFW. The main effect of the experimental diets was significant (P with a decrease in coliform bacteria in the intestine of the rabbits observed with increasing levels of SOFW for total coliform and lactose fermenting bacteria. Effect of Acidomix?AFG levels was significant (P with levels of 0.7% having lower (P counts for total coliform, lactose fermenting bacteria and non-lactose fermenting bacteria. The interaction effect between orange and acidomix levels was also significant (P with rabbits fed 20% SOFW having the lowest coliform counts for total coliform and lactose fermenting bacteria at both levels of acidomix?AFG. It was concluded that the inclusion of sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) fruit waste (SOFW) with Acidomix?AFG has an effect on the coliform count in the small intestine of weaner rabbits.

This study evaluates the effect of raw baobab seed meal (RBSM) on the performance of 40 weaned rabbits with an average weight of 683.00 ± 0.12 g. The rabbits were randomly allotted to four diets with five replicates in a completely randomized design containing 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% raw baobab seed meal (RBSM). Data were collected on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, carcass characteristics and haematological indices. The results of growth performance showed that the final body weight and total body weight gain of weaned rabbits fed 0% (T1), 10% (T2) and 20% (T3) RBSM were similar (P>0.05). However, the rabbits fed 30% (T4) RBSM recorded significantly lower (P<0.05) final body weight and total body weight gain. The feed intake decreased (P<0.05) beyond 20% (T3). The carcass characteristics and internal weight of organs followed similar trend. The nutrient digestibility was (P<0.05) influenced by inclusion levels of RBSM. Dry matter (DM) digestibility was significantly higher (67.20%) in T1 (0%) while the lowest value (55.40%) was observed in T4 (55.40). Crude protein (CP) digestibility ranges from 64.37 to 55.39% while the ether extracts (EE) was between 70.54 to 69.03%. The digestibility values for crude fiber (CF) and nitrogen free extract (NFE) ranges from 67.77 to 55.94 and 65.89 to 59.03%, respectively. The RBSM at 10% to 20% in the diet was found the best inclusion rate for rabbits.

The study was carried out to evaluate the effects of feeding raw kapok seed meal on growth performance, nutrient digestibility and carcass characteristics of weaner rabbits. Thirty (30) weaner rabbits were used for the study. Five diets were compounded using raw kapok seed meal (RKSM) at 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% inclusion levels. The rabbits were weighed and randomly assigned to the five dietary treatments replicated three times with two rabbits per replicate in a completely randomized design. The proximate composition of raw kapok seed meal showed it contains 89.51% dry matter, 17.45% crude fibre, 22.59%, crude protein, 10.05% ether extracts, 6.53%, ash and 43.38% nitrogen free extract. The seed meal also contains tannin (2.53%), Alkaloid (3.34%), phenol (2.48%), flavonoid (2.95%), saponin (1.30%), trypsin inhibitors (17.97%), hemagglutinin (1.69%) and total oxalate (1.12%).The result of growth performance and nutrient digestibility decreased significantly (P<0.01) as the dietary levels of raw kapok seed meal increases. Similarly carcass and internal organ weights were significantly influenced by the dietary levels of RKSM. The relative weights of liver, lungs and kidney significantly (P<0.01) increased beyond 15% RKSM inclusion in the diet. It was concluded that RKSM can be fed to weaner rabbit up to 10% inclusion levels without any adverse effect on the rabbit performance.

Aims: The study was conducted to investigate the effects of feeding urea treated maize stover and graded levels of Balanites aegyptiaca leaves on the haematological and biochemical parameters of Red Sokoto goats. Study Design: Completely Randomized design. Place and Duration of Study: Teaching and Research Farm, Department of Animal Science and Range Management, Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola, Adamawa state, between November 2016 and February 2017. Methodology: Sixteen (16) Red Sokoto goats weighing 9.36 Kg on average were randomly grouped into four and exposed to four dietary treatments with four replicates: A (control), B (100 g Balanites aegyptiaca ), C (200 g Balanites aegyptiaca ) and D (300 g Balanites aegyptiaca ), with each treatment group having four goats. The experiment lasted for 12 weeks. At the end of the experiment, about 10 ml of blood was drawn from the external jugular vein of the animals. The blood samples collected were used for the haematological and biochemical analysis. Results: p 0.05) between the treatments and T4 had the highest concentration. There were significant differences (P 3/μl), red blood cells (2.3-3.3 ×106/μl), neutrophils (23.9-49.8%), mean corpuscular volume (87.2-117.1 fl) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (27.2-39.5 g/dl). Monocytes (4-6%) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin (31.8-39.0 pg) had no significant differences (P>0.05) between the treatments. Urea concentration, total protein and albumin ranged from 4.8 to 7.2 mmol/l, 5.6 to 6.8 g/l and 3.0 to 3.4 g/l respectively. There were significant differences (P 0.05) were observed for total protein and albumin. Conclusion: Supplementation positively influenced the haematology and biochemical parameters of the animals.

This study was conducted to determine the effect of toasted sickle pod seed meal (TSSM) on the growth performance and carcass characteristics of weaner rabbits. Forty weaner rabbits were allotted to the five dietary treatments of eight rabbits per treatment and replicated four times with 2 rabbits per replicate in a completely randomized design (CRD). Five experimental diets were compounded using TSSM at 0%, 2.5%, 5% 7.5% and 10% inclusion levels designated as treatments 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively. Results showed that all the growth parameters measured were not significant (P>0.05) across the dietary treatments as the level TSSM increased in the diets. Total Feed intake (TFI) ranged from 3201.20 to 3235.40g/rabbit while the total weight gain (TWG) varied from 930.00 g in T3 to 936.67g in T4. Better feed conversion ratio was observed in the rabbit fed experimental diets There was no significant difference (P>0.05) in carcass characteristics and internal weight organs evaluated. It was concluded that toasted sickle pod seed meal (TSSM) can be included in rabbit diet up 10% without negative effect on growth performance and carcass characteristics.

A 56 days study was conducted using two hundred (200) Anak – 2000 one week old chicks to evaluate the effects of feeding varying levels of pumpkin seed meal (PSM) on the growth performance and carcass characteristics of broiler chickens. The chicks were randomly assigned to five dietary treatments consisting of four replicates of ten birds per replicate in a completely randomized design (CRD). Five broiler chicken (starter and finisher) diets were formulated such that diet T1 (control) contained 0.0% pumpkin seed meal (PSM) while diets T2, T3, T4 and T5 contained 5.0%, 10.0%, 15.00% and 20.0% PSM respectively. The study lasted for 56 days. The result of growth performance showed that, final body weight, total body weight gain and average daily weight gain significantly increased (P<0.05) as the levels of PSM increased in the diets. While total feed intake and feed conversion ratio did not differ significantly among dietary treatments There was significant differences (P<0.05) among dietary treatments for live weight and dressed weight, though no particular pattern was observed. Dressing percent, breast, thigh, abdominal fat, kidney, gizzard, liver and lungs weights did not differ significantly as the levels of PSM increased in the diets. It was concluded from the study that pumpkin seed meal is a good source of crude protein and can substitute soybean meal in a broiler chicken diet up to 20.00% since the study did not record any adverse effect on the internal organs.

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the growth? performance of broilers fed dietary levels of rice milling residue (RMR) as a replacement of wheat offal (WO), as a fibre source in broiler diet. Three hundred (300) day old chicks were used for the experiment in a completely randomized design (CRD) for eight (8) weeks. The birds were randomly allotted to five (5) dietary treatments of sixty (60) chicks and replicated three (3) times with twenty (20) chicks per replicate. Five (5) treatment diets were formulated in which rice milling residue (RMR) was included to replace wheat offal (WO) at the levels of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% representing T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 respectively. The result of the growth performance showed that, the average daily feed intake (ADFI), average daily weight gained (ADWG) were not significantly different (P>0.05) across treatment groups except feed conversion ratio (FCR). Birds fed T1, T2, T3 and T5 recorded Superior FCR. ADWG ranged from 31.31 g (T1) to 32.82 (T3). Birds on T3 diet recorded higher feed intake of 130.15 g while the least was observed in T1 (116.82 g). It was concluded that rice milling residue (RMR) can completely replace wheat offal without any detrimental effect on growth performance of broilers chickens.
